CIS of Atlanta is excited to be partnering with Grammy-nominated artist, Clinton Sparks, and honored to be the recipient of 100% of the proceeds from his latest album. CIS Site Coordinator Assists with Perfect Attendance Incentive Van

Our Site Coordinator at Boyd Elementary School, Shirkia Spearman, assisted in the Boyd Bobcat Incentive Van. The idea behind the Boyd Bobcat Incentive Van was to give incentives, including class dojo points, to students who had perfect attendance for the week of school. Perfect attendance consisted of those students who successfully logged in every day. Class dojo points are points earned for students who participate during class using the virtual platform. Shirkia states, “I came up with the theme Candyland because we gave out candy bags and certificates. I decorated the van because I wanted the students to have an experience. CIS Atlanta Site Coordinator Visits Students at Home 🍎✏️🖊️📓🏠

Our site coordinator at Cross Keys High School, Federica Teodori, made a few stops to her students’ homes to encourage them and drop off goody bags! Along for the ride was Ms. Angelica Rosso, School-Parent Engagement Facilitator for Region 1. Federica wanted to see some of her returning students as well as her new ones who have not had a chance to see her. Overall, she was able to visit three students during the day. Latinx Heritage Month: Meet Our Staff, Rigo Rivera

Rigoberto "Rigo" Rivera is the Deputy Director of Programs here at Communities In Schools of Atlanta. Rigo was born in Brownsville, TX to immigrant parents from Mexico. They moved to Georgia in 1996 where he was the first in his family to graduate from high school and attend college. He received his BA in Political Science and International Relations from Georgia Gwinnett College and MS in Youth Development Leadership at Clemson University. Rigo has a passion for helping the Latino community, especially in issues involving immigration as well as minority and first-generation students achieving higher education. Most recently, he was presented with the "30 under 30" award from the Young Nonp

CIS Atlanta Site Coordinator Celebrates 25 Years of Service 🎊🎉

La'Vonna Taylor, our site coordinator at Brown Middle School, is celebrating 25 years of dedicated service to Communities In Schools of Atlanta. La'Vonna started with CIS in August of 1995 when it was under the Free Standing Academy model. Her first assignment was at Rich's Academy. She began her career in education at an alternative school academy in Atlanta Public Schools as a Student Records Specialist, then a Social Service Specialist, then a Graduation Coach, and now as a Site Coordinator. She states, “I love being an encouraging part of young people's lives by cultivating one-on-one relationships with students as they earn incentives and recognitions for improvements and achievements.
