Our Programs

Communities In Schools of Atlanta empowers youth in the greater Atlanta area to reach their greatest potential through a wide range of services.

Where We Serve

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta partners with 65 schools in Atlanta, including Clayton, Dekalb and Fulton County Schools. The CIS model is implemented in each school to help students succeed.

21st Century Learning Center

21st Century Learning Center is an after-school program designed to prepare 21st century scholars with cutting edge STEAM skills. Hosted at Bear Creek Middle School and Creekside High School in South Fulton County, this program runs after school each school day and for 3 weeks during the summer.

Community Service

Giving back to community is an essential part of our work. We know that in many cases the students who we serve are some of the most vulnerable in our community. However, we know that the benefit of giving back increases the sense of community and promotes team work. Our students work to create a unique project that will address a critical need in their specific community.

Emergency Aid

Our students and families face many social and economic challenges. Our goal to empower students to achieve is only possible if they are able to focus on their education and graduate. Many of the barriers they face are due to crisis situations that are out of their control. We work to eliminate those barriers by providing mini grants to stabilize the home so students are free to concentrate on learning.

Food Pantry

We partner with local food pantries and other food providers to ensure that each school we serve has an on-site supply of items for families in need.

Foster Care Services

Launched in 2017, our work has expanded to serve students in Fulton and Dekalb County who are in foster care. These students need our services more than ever to combat a 18% graduation rate that was reported by Governor Deal for the State of Georgia. CIS of Atlanta will provide additional integrated student supports for the most vulnerable youth in select schools as we expand to a total of nearly 400 youth in the coming years.

Mentors

A positive role model is essential to student success. We partner with businesses and other nonprofits to ensure that our students have mentors. We also have Stars Mentoring at several high schools. In this mentoring program, juniors and seniors  mentor freshman students to ensure they stay on track.

Partnerships

We rely heavily on partnering with other agencies to ensure we have access to the best services for our students and families.

Reading Programs

In addition to providing individual tutors to students, we partner with Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and Page Turners Make Great Learners to provide books and reading events at elementary schools.

Real World Academy

Real World Academy is a 21st Century Learning Center program designed to equip high school students with the needed skills to achieve in life. This is done through STEAM related learning opportunities.

Risky Behavior Programs

We work with students to provide programs to address real world issues like peer pressure, trauma and leadership development. Our XY-Zone program is specifically for African American and Latino male students. We also bring in partners like the U.S. Attorney office and ex-offenders to talk to students about the real effects of incarceration and the justice system.
