Congratulations to CIS of Atlanta’s Class of 2019 Graduates
Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta salutes our students who were promoted from elementary school to middle school, our students who were promoted from middle to school to high school and especially our students (now esteemed CIS of Atlanta alumni) who graduated from high school and are embarking upon their bright post-graduation journeys.
2019 Graduation Highlights:
All 23 of CIS of Atlanta’s seniors at Langston Hughes High School (Fulton County) graduated on time.
Several seniors from Creekside High School (Fulton County) are attending college, particularly historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) including, Albany State University, Clark Atlanta University, and Morehouse College.
Rolando Robinson at B.E.S.T. Academy (APS) was awarded the Transformation Award during the Target 2021 Awards Ceremony for increasing his attendance from 62% in November 2018 to 84% in April 2019 (prior to graduation). Robinson is attending Young Harris College this fall.
Teria Harrison from Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy (APS) received Communities In Schools College Trunk Award and is attending Savannah State University this fall and will major in Forensic Psychology. Over $1M in scholarships were awarded to the Class of 2019 at Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy.
Several gradates from Booker T. Washington High School (APS) are attending college this fall, including Tuskegee University (founded by Booker T. Washington in 1881), Clayton State University and Atlanta Metropolitan State College.
Graduates from Maynard H. Jackson High School (APS) received acceptances to University of New Orleans, Benedict College, Reinhardt University, Albany State University, and Perimeter College.
Cross Keys High School Class of 2019 consisted of 266 graduates. 46% of the graduates are attending a two or four year college and 3% of the graduates are entering the military. Over $2M in scholarships were awarded to the Class of 2019.
CIS of Atlanta’s CEO, Frank Brown, spoke at four awards and promotional ceremonies including C.H. Gullatt Elementary School (Fulton), Woodland Middle School (Fulton), Tuskegee Airman Global Academy Elementary School (APS), and Frederick Douglass High School (APS).
CIS of Atlanta is a part of the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization, dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help students succeed in school and achieve in life. During the 2017 – 2018 academic school year, 96% of CIS of Atlanta students were promoted or graduated. Our success is primarily due to the commitment from our Site Coordinators, who selflessly serve our students on-site at schools across metro-Atlanta with wraparound services including tutoring, mentorship, financial emergency assistance, food pantries, clothing, attendance recognition activities, and most importantly enduring love as reflected in the following text message from 2019 Booker T.
