Valencia Dennis Awarded Student Services Sensation of the Year

Communities In Schools (CIS) site coordinator, Valencia Dennis, was awarded Student Services Sensation of the Year at Maynard H. Jackson High School. But not before being recognized by the staff at Maynard M. Jackson High School and APS Target 2021 and presented the Student Support Coach Award.

As Student Services Sensation of the Year, Dennis was recognized for the outstanding student support services she provided to her CIS student caseload at Maynard H. Jackson High School, in addition to the relationships she established with the students, the students’ families and the school’s staff. As a dedicated CIS of Atlanta site coordinator, Dennis always goes the extra mile for her students, as evidenced by her graduation/promotion rate increasing and failure rates decreasing.

As a service project to support CIS of Atlanta’s signature fundraising event, Choose Success, Dennis partnered with HungryHearts.org to provide over 3,000 packets of personal hygiene products to homeless persons in the community. Several students from Maynard H. Jackson High School, including the students from Dennis’ caseload, donated personal hygiene items to receive their community service hours and/or extra credit points from their teachers to complete the project. Additionally, students separated the personal hygiene items, placed the items inside zip locked bags and distributed personal hygiene packets throughout the community. Dennis’ charitable giving continued as she provided students (again, not just students from her caseload) at Maynard H. Jackson High School, by way of a donation from the high school, with required mesh back backs.

Dennis is truly #allinforkids and she is very deserving of the Student Services Sensation of the Year and Student Support Coach awards she received during the 2018 – 2019 academic school year!
