News: Promotion and Graduation Rates on the Rise

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta- part of the nation’s largest dropout prevention network- increased its graduation and promotion rate for the 2017-2018 school year. By the end of the 2017-2018 school year, 96% of CIS of Atlanta students were promoted or graduated and 98% stayed in school.

During the 2016-2017 school year, 92% of CIS of Atlanta students were promoted or graduated. For the 2017-2018 school year, this number increased by 4%, reaching 96%. This increase is attributed to behavior, attendance and life skills support provided by our staff with nearly 7,000 hours of family engagement.

According to the latest figures from 2017-2018 school year, CIS of Atlanta achieved the following:

Over 88,000 hours of direct services provided to students by site coordinators inside 65 schools throughout the Metro Atlanta region.
Approximately 4,500 case-managed students received 18,841 hours of academic assistance.
Nearly 30,000 non-caseload students in the CIS of Atlanta network were served through whole-school activities.

CIS of Atlanta’s goal for the year 2021 is to maintain at least a 95% promotion or graduation rate of case-managed students with attendance, behavior or academic issues.

“We need to ensure that our kids have the same chances that you and I have. We can do this by making sure our kids graduate. Our goal by 2021 is that 95% of kids we serve will be promoted or will graduate. Then after that we need to work on work force development. Workforce development will bring better opportunities to obtain companies like Amazon 2.0 or any other leader in an industry to Atlanta. What could our community look like if we placed a site coordinator on college campuses to make sure students like ours have what they need to graduate college and fill local jobs?” said Frank Brown, CEO of Communities In Schools of Atlanta.
