CIS of Atlanta Partners with Hosea Helps: Provides Weekly Bagged Meals to Summer Students' Famil

For many families, the neighborhood school is the one guaranteed place their child(ren) will receive a meal. Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta and Hosea Helps partnered together to launch “No Summer Hunger” at J.E. Brown Middle School. Bagged meals were distributed weekly (June 4 – 27, 2019) to the families of over 180 Atlanta Public School (APS) students who attended the summer program at Brown Middle School. Participating summer campers were not only enrolled at Brown Middle School, but they are also enrolled at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, Hollis Innovation Academy (currently under renovation) and Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy.

Elisabeth Omilami, CEO of Hosea Helps, along with her husband Afemo Omilami, attended the end of camp celebration at J.E. Brown Middle School on Wednesday, June 26 to personally connect and interact with the students as they showcased their many talents and to discover how they personally felt about the food served to their families during camp. Mr. and Mrs. Omilami also monitored first-hand the program’s logistics in terms of food storage and distribution to families.

Communities In Schools of Atlanta’s site coordinator, LaVonna Taylor, formed the partnership between CIS of Atlanta and Hosea Helps to launch “No Summer Hunger” at J.E. Brown Middle School. Taylor is returning to Brown Middle School this upcoming 2019 – 2020 academic school year.
