The 14th annual Choose Success Awards Dinner was more than a success. With the help of our friends and gracious supporters, we raised $430,000 to support the mission of Communities In Schools of Atlanta, surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
The event was filled with over 400 influential business professionals, community leaders and philanthropic donors who believe that every disadvantaged student deserves a bright future. Inspirational stories filled the room throughout the night. Current CIS of Atlanta students were recognized for overcoming their struggles and moving towards a successful future. Alumni shared stories of success and gave hope to the current students.
Speakers from our presenting sponsors, The Coca-Cola Company and Southern Company, gave insightful words and celebrated the achievements of CIS of Atlanta. An outstanding staff member was also recognized and was presented with the first ever Patty Pflum All in for Kids Award. This award is named in honor of the legacy of Patty Pflum, the first paid employee of CIS of Atlanta. Guests not only heard from students, staff and sponsors, but also from CIS National President and CEO, Dale Erquiaga, and CIS of Atlanta CEO, Frank Brown. They explained the impact of CIS and how Neil and Patty were integral in starting the organization.
Saving the best for last, Patty Pflum and Neil Shorthouse were honored with the Anne Cox Chambers Champion for Kids Award. Their humble acceptance speeches were filled with stories from the past and a charge towards the future. We are all rich in resources and talents and are called to use our blessings to help students in need.
