CIS of Atlanta Documentary “Beating the Odds” Makes an Impact at the Full Bloom Festival

Our debut at the Full Bloom Festival in Statesville, North Carolina was impactful and our film creator Jessica Young described it as inspiring and emotional, telling us “there was not a dry eye in the theater.” “Beating the Odds” highlights the stories of the students we serve, along with our CEO, Frank Brown’s story about overcoming challenges to become the leader he is today. Dr. Keith Cradle, Fraternity Brother of CIS of Atlanta CEO, Frank Brown was also in the audience and said, “It was amazing and eye opening. UPS Sponsors Latino Heritage Month Event at Cross Keys High School

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, UPS sponsored a day of mentoring for youth at Cross Keys High School. The Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA), invited Latino professionals from Google and Applied Industrial Technologies to speak to youth about potential career opportunities. The speakers shared how they overcame challenges with passion and perseverance to reach their career and life goals. In addition, thanks to UPS close to 60 students were given refreshments and school supplies. Special thanks to UPS, ALPFA President, Mr. F. Ramirez, Ms. Karin Lopez of GOOGLE, and Mr. Gustavo Salazar, from Applied Industrial Technologies.

CIS of Atlanta Receives TEGNA Foundation Grant

We are honored to be one of 17 local Atlanta nonprofit organizations that received a grant through the TEGNA Foundation. During a celebration at the 11Alive studios, our Senior Development Manager, DaVena Jordan was able to share our mission and illustrate how our grant will be used to continue supporting the students we serve at our partner schools. We are proud to be part of a community of organizations striving to make an impact and assisting those in need in Atlanta.

CIS of Atlanta Honors Grandparents During Annual Breakfast

Grandparents are an important part of our student’s success as they work hard to help them find the resources needed to succeed. Our Communities in Schools of Atlanta team works closely with the Grandparents of the students we serve and we honored them by hosting the Towers Annual Grandparent’s Breakfast. Grandparents had a great time as they were served by our students and had a chance to network with other support agencies who highlighted some of the additional resources available to them, including Project Healthy Grandparents, DeKalb County Library, JenCare Medical, and DeKalb County Family Engagement Liaison. Macy’s Partners with CIS of Atlanta for “Big Give Back” Day

Real-life superheroes showed up in a big way for students at Boyd, Scott and Hollis Innovation Academy Elementary schools for the Macy's "Big Give Back" day. Macy's partnered with Communities in Schools of Atlanta to read the book, "Even Superheroes Make Mistakes," by Shelly Becker, which gave Macy's mentors a chance to read the story, but also talk to kids about working hard to make the right decisions and use their superpowers for good. To top it off, each child was given a free copy of the book to take home with them and read to their families. The best part of the day was the excitement that filled the schools.
