Wally Amos might be out of the cookie-making business, but he’s still pursuing one of his greatest passions – childhood literacy.

Amos – founder of “Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies” and a Communities In Schools national board member – and his wife Christine have authored a line of children’s books, “The Adventures of Chip and Cookie.”

The Amos’ created the book series and the main characters – “Chip” and “Cookie” – as a tool for teaching children the importance of reading, having good character, and being responsible.

 

Amos stopped in Atlanta last week to promote the first installment of the book series, “The Adventures of Chip and Cookie: No More Chocolate Chips!” Communities In Schools of Atlanta program coordinator Carrie Woodyard and field supervisor Jill Van Leesten coordinated his visit to Atlanta’s Venetian Hills Elementary School. 

Recent Donations Received by CIS of Atlanta
We want to thank all of those who provide funding for Communities In Schools of Atlanta, including the following recent grants:

• $25,000 from the Coca-Cola Foundation to support literacy programs in CIS schools
• $25,000 from the Costco Foundation to support the expansion of CIS into new schools in DeKalb County schools
• $15,000 from the John H. & Wilhelmina Harland D. Charitable Foundation to pilot a mentoring program for middle school students to help ease their transition to high school
