Borders Books and 94.9 Lite FM Sponsor Book Drive for CIS

cliffordClifford the Big Red Dog visited Borders to Promote Book DriveBorders Books & Music partnered with 94.9 Lite FM radio station to sponsor a Back To School Book Drive for Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta during the month of August. Patrons at 12 metro area Borders stores purchased and donated more than 10,000 books during the Drive. Radio station 94.9 Lite FM helped with on-air promotions. CIS will distribute the donated books to CIS-supported schools in Atlanta, DeKalb County and Cobb County.

“This book drive represents what CIS is all about bringing the community together to help ALL children succeed in school,” said Patty Pflum, Executive Director of CIS of Atlanta. “We want to thank all of the patrons and partners who helped make the book drive such a great success.”

Rich’s-Macy’s volunteers honor the 9/11 anniversary with project at Sylvan Middle School
More than 150 volunteers helped beautify Sylvan Hills Middle School on September 11th as part of the Rich’s-Macy’s 15th Annual “Partners-In-Time” community service project. CIS of Atlanta staff helped coordinate and participated in the event.
Volunteers completed a number of projects at the school, including:

  • robwilson-wqokTalk show host Rob Wilson (center) with CIS staff and donors at the school supply drive.constructing a mini-outdoor amphitheater;
  • painting large, colorful murals in the hallways;
  • planting flowers and trees around the school;
  • adding picnic tables and benches to outdoor areas.


WAOK 1380 AM teams up with Federal Express and Office Depot to collect school supplies

In August, WAOK 1380 AM Radio sponsored its 2nd Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive for CIS of Atlanta. Talk show host Rob Wilson hosted a live remote broadcast at the Office Depot on 14th Street on August 5 and 6, encouraging his listeners to come by the store and purchase school supplies for distribution to CIS schools. Office Depot added its own donations and Federal Express provided a truck and driver to help collect and deliver the supplies. In all, more than $5,000 of supplies was collected.
